Top fintech podcasts
The bull market in podcasts hasn't overlooked the fintech industry. When we started the Tradestreaming Podcast (iTunes, SoundCloud) in 2009, there weren't a lot of voices discussing the impact technology was having on the financial industry. Now, thankfully, there are a growing number of quality shows that are worth a listen if you're on the bleeding-edge of financial services. Here are 8 of the best fintech podcasts and a Twitter list we compiled to make it easier to track them. Around the Coin "The mission behind Around The Coin podcast is to offer entrepreneurs an alternative perspective for growing their business in and around the payment industry." Look for the varying format lengths of the Around the Coin podcast, from 20 minutes to over an hour. The different voices bring different perspectives to the conversation. These guys know their payments.   BankNXT Fintech Podcast "The BankNXT mission is to provide insight and thought leadership to people working in or around financial technology and financial services." Shaun Weston runs BankNXT, a website, podcast, and events about fintech, owned by software firm, Backbase. The website also republishes other top fintech podcasts. Weston interviews primarily European fintech entrepreneurs in sessions that last about 30 minutes.   Breaking Banks "Tune in for a look at how technology and customer behavior will bring about more changes in banking in the next 10 years, than in the last 200 years." Brett is a big personality and very connected in the global fintech industry. King frequently has guest hosts and multiple voices on the show. Captures a lot of the conversation around current events.   Fintech5 "FinTech5 Podcast is a short-form punchy interview podcast with the GameChangers that are recreating Financial Services and Technology." Fintech5 episodes run around five minutes long and are insightful looks into some of the people powering fintech. The short format allows host Sam Maule to pick and prod relevant stories out of interesting professionals.   Fintech Insider "Each week, [the hosts] chat through the news that week and are joined by some of the biggest names in banking and FinTech. From CEOs of Banks and FinTechs to the leading lights in reporting and news presenting."
  • Host: David M. Brear, Chris Skinner, Jason Bates and Simon Taylor

Based in London, the Fintech Insider podcast does a good job surfacing many of the European professionals driving the future of finance. The show serves as a rundown of the week's news as various  people weigh in to help make sense of the trends and news. London Fintech Podcast "The Fintech Revolution is about the changes that 'digital' -- i.e. a much more internet and mobile-centric world -- is bringing to Financial Services. It is my belief that old FS and new FS firms will need to converge. Incumbents will need to get more 'with it' and new entrants somewhat more 'solid'." Host Baliman likes to say that he bridges the world between suits and tshirts. Episodes are typically 40 minutes long but can run to about an hour. Guests typically emanate from the fintech startup world and from consultancies and other service providers.   Payments on Fire Payments on Fire is the in-house podcast produced by payments consultancy Glenbrook Partners. PoF is hosted by George Peabody, a partner at Glenbrook Partners, a payments consulting firm. Entrepreneurs from leading startups in the payment space are generally guests on the show. Other Glenbrook partners occasionally pop up to share research information and to discuss trends.   Unchained "Explores how blockchain and fintech will open up new opportunities for incumbents, startups, and everyday people to interact more efficiently, directly and globally." Shin, a Forbes contributor, covers blockchain, digital currencies, and fintech. The show recently completed its first season of interviewing experts with hands-on experience with bitcoin and blockchain. Episodes run between 45 minutes and 1 hour.   Wharton Fintech Podcast "The [podcast] discusses the trends, topics and ideas that are reshaping financial services globally. It features founders, investors, students and thinkers from the world of FinTech with unique perspectives." The student-led fintech initiative publishes interviews with fintech entrepreneurs early stage investors. Production quality isn't generally as good as some of the other top fintech podcasts but the interviews are genuine and informative, if not somewhat naive. Episodes run 20 to 40 minutes.
