Plaid’s product lead Niko Karvounis added as a new speaker to Tearsheet’s DataDay Conference

We have an incredible speaker lineup for our upcoming DataDay Conference June 2 – 4. DataDay is a first-of-its-kind conference on financial data. Consumer data, data ecosystems, and data aggregation is changing the face of modern financial services. We have speakers from Plaid, Wells Fargo, Fiserv, MX, Stash, and more. Secure your spot.

When Visa acquired Plaid earlier in 2020, it was increasingly clear how one of the leading data aggregation and open finance platforms would fit in at Visa. As a massive payments platform, Visa has been working diligently over the past few years to make inroads into the top venture-backed fintech firms. Visa, as well as large banks, payment firms, and fintechs, are part of large data ecosystems.

We’re proud to announce that Niko Karvounis, Product Lead and Co-founder of Quovo, Plaid will present at DataDay on Open Finance and The Coming Changes to Financial Services.

Niko was co-founder of Quovo in 2013. Quovo brought a focus on aggregating and cleaning investment account data to the industry. Plaid acquired Quovo in 2019. At Plaid, he’s the product lead of the data firm’s offerings to financial institutions.

On founding Quovo

“I know what it’s like to start a company with a guy named Lowell [Putnam]. He and I went to college together. It’s the ride that you think it will be and also in no way what we thought it would be. It’s was wonderful and still is. The team is doing great as part of Plaid.” (11:FS)

On connectivity during the pandemic

“The trend to digital financial services was inevitable, but now we’re seeing it spike — and that kind of stuff doesn’t roll back. Connectivity isn’t a phrase we should take for granted. We’re all stuck at home or somewhere that’s not the bank’s physical location.” (BankingDive)

Entrepreneurship through acquisition

“It may sound cliche but it comes down to the people involved. No matter what something looks like in terms of a spreadsheet, a strategy, a product spec — at the end of the day, it is a bunch of people trying to get something done. That goes whether you are three people starting something off to when you’re scaling to exiting. It’s all very complex and strategic and at times, fundamentally simple. Do you have a shared grounding in the fundamentals? Do you like these people enough to endure how hard this will be?” (11:FS)
